Hundreds of drivers have been slapped with fines on a busy motorway in the first week of new speed cameras being installed.Temporary speed cameras were put in place on a section of the M80 which merges into the M8 westbound near Glasgow since April 2.
However, a "concerning" number of road users have been caught going over the 40mph speed limit, with the cameras recording 745 offences in this time period.According to Safety Cameras Scotland, some motorists have been caught driving at "unacceptable" speeds of up to 70mph.
The minimum penalty for speeding on Scottish roads is £100 fine and three penalty points.The cameras, known as TASCAR, are located southbound at junction 1, leading onto the M8 westbound, between Junctions 13 and 14.
Signs are in place advising motorists that there are temporary speed restrictions in place and that average speed cameras are in enforcement.Alan Bowater, West Safety Camera Unit Manager said: "We would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that the average speed cameras on the M80/M8 are currently enforcing.
