Plans to build a new estate of ‘luxury family homes’ in the green belt have been voted through despite concerns that it comes before the official adoption of the region’s housing masterplan.
Oldham’s planning committee has approved an application for 27 houses on land in Failsworth that is included in the Places for Everyone (PfE) strategic plan.
But councillors queried whether it was right that the site, which is brownfield but sits within the green belt, be developed before the major regional scheme is officially approved.
The PfE masterplan plots out the development future for every Greater Manchester local authority except for Stockport. Following months of hearings, in August planning inspectors have issued a series of modifications, including that the amount of green belt released be increased from 4,300 acres to 5,500 acres.
