Just as autumn gets underway, the summer weather has finally returned. After a sunny weekend with temperatures returning to the high 20s, Greater Manchester is set for even more hot weather this week.
Temperatures will peak at 27C, remaining in the mid-twenties as the weekend rolls around. The Met Office has given its verdict on how long the heatwave will last.
To meet the heatwave criteria, the daily maximum temperature must reach 25C or higher in Greater Manchester. This threshold must be met or exceeded for three consecutive days. With highs of 27C predicted in our region on Monday (September 4), Tuesday and Thursday, and 25C on Wednesday and Friday, it means we could be in for a five-day heatwave.
Throughout the UK, meanwhile, the Met Office said heat will likely peak on Wednesday and Thursday, with temperatures gradually declining into the weekend, though the southeast should retain the relative warmth the longest.
