Manchester United coach Benni McCarthy is likely to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer. McCarthy, a boyhood fan of United, was a late addition to Erik ten Hag's backroom staff in the summer of 2022 and he was appointed as a specialist striker coach.

The South African was praised by United players for his involvement in a handful of goals last season and his remit is to 'focus on the positioning and attacking stuff'.

McCarthy is an extroverted character and has become popular among the players, but he looks likely to leave United this summer as his contract expires in June. In March, McCarthy said: "With the knowledge I've gained and everything I've contributed to the team - I want to take that and then eventually become a manager.

Because once you've sat in the hot seat at a club and you've experienced the adrenaline of decision-making and leading, you want to experience that again one day." McCarthy is yet to receive a new contract offer from United and he's considering his future options ahead of Ten Hag potentially being sacked after a disappointing season.
