The Ayrshire Junior club was in a dire state, with no players, committee, funds or kit. But the crime lawyer managed to cobble a team together, kit them out and keep the club alive, serving as both manager and chairman and even playing when he was well into his 50s.
He even had to cut the grass himself, with a lawnmower he'd bought from B&Q, staying up to 3am to make sure the park was in the best condition it could be for a match.
And the club's finances were in such dire straits he had to run 10 marathons in five weeks to raise the funds to pay the players.
