Lonsdale Promises Love, Flash and Rainbows at WorldPride Closing Concert
Best known for his roles in Love, Simon and The Flash, Australian actor, dancer, and singer-songwriter Keiynan Lonsdale will be headlining and co-hosting Rainbow Republic, Sydney WorldPride 2023’s closing concert on March 5. While the release date for this new album is top secret, Lonsdale disclosed that the new album charts new personal ground. Reflecting on recently turning 30, he said, “I’m thinking about love differently, I’m thinking about identity differently. “My first album was all about coming out… really accessing this identity and exploration and this fight and yearning to be understood. “Now, I’ve just been a lot more settled into myself and just a lot more self-reflection. I feel more relaxed into myself and navigating life and love outside of the secrets, and travelling to different countries, and growing into myself more as a man and loving myself more as a man, and really solidifying my values.”Rainbow Republic marks Lonsdale’s return to hosting after a decade. The former MTV VJ, who interviewed celebrities and hosted parties and events, is relieved that he would not be doing it alone, with Melbourne-based non-binary singer-songwriter G Flip sharing hosting duty. Not only does Rainbow Republic promise to be the biggest audience of Lonsdale’s career, but it will also be his first-ever Mardi Gras.“I’ve always been away from the country and when I lived here I was too scared to go, to be completely candid with you,” he says. “It’s always been this thing that I’ve been looking forward to being able to access and enjoy.

Sydney Council Votes For New Rainbow Pathway Ahead Of WorldPride
A rainbow pathway in Newtown may be just around the corner, after a motion to begin plans for a new pathway in time for next year’s Sydney WorldPride event was carried unanimously by Inner West Council last week. The motion, which was moved by Independent Pauline Lockie and seconded by the Greens Liz Atkins, noted that installing a rainbow crossing in Newtown would be “a visible sign of pride and support for our LGBTQ community”.“Symbols representing our community make it clear that queer people are welcome in our community and, are in fact, to be celebrated,” Cr Atkins told Star Observer when asked about the significance of installing the new rainbow pathway.Cr Pauline LockThis follows a previously resolved motion by council in December 2019, where prospects for a rainbow crossing at the intersection of King Street and Enmore Road in Newtown were being investigated.Although the motion was then approved by councillors, an installation required the approval of Transport for NSW, who “advised Council that it would not support a rainbow crossing in this location and is also unlikely to approve other locations for on-road rainbow crossings”.“That’s quite a complicated intersection anyway, there are multiple sets of lights; multiple crossing points; emergency access points; a train station there”, Cr Lockie told City Hub.Alternative options suggested in the motion included lighting one of the pathways in Camperdown Memorial Rest Park with rainbow lights, painting one of the existing pathways in the park in rainbow colours, and painting a rainbow pathway outside Newtown Town Hall. Two amendments were moved by Cr Mat Howard, who called on council to “submit a request to the Geographical Names Board to rename the public square

Mark Latham Opposes NSW Police Training For Sydney WorldPride
One Nation MP Mark Latham has described NSW police’s proposal to train 315 officers as special LGBTQI officers for Sydney WorldPride as “disproportionate.”The police officers would be Gay and Lesbian Liaison Officers for next year’s Sydney WorldPride. Latham said they should instead be trained for “dealing with housing estate and elderly residents,”the  Daily Telegraph reported. The ex-Labor MP also described the move as “identity politics in policing.” According to the News Corp masthead, the NSW government sent “255 generalist officers to the special [LGBTQI] training to become Gay and Lesbian Liaison Officers.” There is a “plan to train up to 100 more this year.” The officers will “engage positively and support members of the [LGBTQI] communities in NSW” and learn about the “history of the relationship between police and [LGBTQI] communities, challenges and sensitivities.” The training will also involve “[championing LGBTQI] inclusion at work and provide support to [LGBTQI] staff.” Latham claimed 12 officers for the elderly was “inadequate” and claimed the numbers were “out of balance.” Mark Latham“Three hundred and fifteen officers trained for LGBTIQ due for the Sydney World Pride next year, but only 12 for elderly and disabled people?” Latham said. “It’s almost 25 times more LGBTIQ officers than for the elderly and the disabled, then nothing for welfare recipients, public housing estates, remote and geographically remote people.
