A man who bit his victim's ear off during a horrific attack has been jailed. Steven Paterson, 35, left his victim needing surgery for life-threatening injuries after the sickening assault.

Lancashire Police were called to Bolton Road, Darwen, at 12.35pm on October 26 last year following reports a man had been assaulted inside a flat.

The victim - a man in his 50s - was rushed to hospital suffering from a number of injuries including a collapsed lung and a bleed on the brain.

Paterson was arrested at the scene and later charged. On Monday, he appeared at Preston Crown Court and was sentenced to nine years and five months in prison, with an extended licence of five years.
