A man who was struck by a car as he stood on a footpath is fighting for his life in hospital. The crash happened in Ashton-in-Makerfield near Wigan just after 5pm yesterday evening (Friday).
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said a silver Skoda Karoq was travelling eastbound along Wigan Road from the junction with Bryn Road when it "crossed the centre line, entering the westbound carriageway before colliding with a pedestrian." A 50-year-old man from Wigan was struck "while standing on a footpath outside of a business" they said.
He was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. He remains in a critical condition the force said in a statement issued this evening (Saturday). The crash is being investigated by the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU). They are asking anyone who may have witnessed it, to come forward.
