Marks and Spencer has confirmed it will not be selling any wrapping paper that contains plastic this Christmas. The retailer decided to issue the ban in 2021 as well, and because it was such a success, it's been introduced UK-wide again for this festive season.
All plastic will be removed from items such as wrapping paper and gift bags, to reduce the amount of harmful waste that gets released into the environment - but not everyone is happy about this decision, Birmingham Live reports.
An M&S spokesperson said: "We’re really proud that for the second year running our Christmas greeting cards, gift bags and wrapping paper are all plastic-free – and 100% recyclable."We’ve had fantastic feedback from customers and have carried out testing to make sure the labels on our wrapping paper rolls are easy to remove and do not cause damage."The decision to scrap plastic has been met with scrutiny with some shoppers. One person left a review saying: "This wrapping paper is of very high quality but whoever manufactures it and decided to secure each roll in 3 sections with an adhesive band obviously didn’t undertake any testing."When trying to remove the adhesive bands you find they peel away in tiny pieces to the point they damage the wrapping paper and you instantly lose 6/8 inches on each roll.
This is such a shame as like I said the actual paper, whilst not cheap, is very good."And another person said: "Bought this wrapping paper with 5 peel-me stickers which were very hard to remove and kept tearing and damaging the wrapping paper, this was to be a quick job now still trying to remove stickers.
