Snow likely for Christmas weekend in Scotland as Met Office issues forecast

Those hoping for some snow to fall this festive period might just be in luck, as parts of Scotland could be in for a white Christmas.The Met Office's forecast going into Sunday states that there could be "some snow" in Scotland, although it may be confined to the hills.

However, this would still count as a white Christmas under the Met Office's own definition.They say that a single snowflake falling during the 24 hours of December 25 somewhere in the UK counts as a white Christmas, writes the Mirror.And it's still not known whether or not any snow would stay confined to the hills, as the Met Office say that forecasts further than a couple of days out can change.Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Dan Harris explains: "Uncertainty in the weather forecast details is not unusual at 6-7 days out, and the current weather patterns are heightening those uncertainties."Confidence in the forecast is unlikely to increase until mid-week at the earliest and a range of outcomes are still possible.Met Office forecaster Greg Dewhurst said that colder air is again coming down from the Arctic over the weekend.He stated: "The jet stream remains close to the UK meaning low pressures will move in from the Atlantic, orange on the map meaning fairly mild at the moment but if we run the sequence through over the next few days we might see some colder air trying to push down from the north."This may introduce some colder air across central parts and northern parts as we enter the Christmas weekend."He added: “Some uncertainty where colder and milder air will lie"TonightShowers continue in the north.
