All of the supermarkets that plan to slash Christmas vegetable prices to 19p

A number of supermarkets in the UK are slashing the prices of vegetables to 19p, making Christmas dinners more affordable amid the cost of living crisis.

The first to implement the price cuts was budget retailer Aldi - which was this week named the cheapest supermarket in the UK for November.

Competitors Lidl and Sainsbury's have since also slashed their vegetable prices. Items including carrots, parsnips, mini roasts, swede and Brussels sprouts will all be reduced in price during the week leading up to Christmas.

It is not yet known if Big Four competitors Asda, Tesco and Morrisons will also drop their rates. Aldi's offer will begin on December 18 as part of its popular Christmas Super Six deals.Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: "At Aldi we believe that access to fresh, high-quality food is a right, not a privilege – and Christmas dinner is no exception."Christmas is an expensive time for many families up and down the UK, but customers can rest assured that Aldi will always offer the very best value groceries." Lidl and Sainsbury's followed Aldi's price cut soon after, with a full Christmas dinner for six at Lidl costing just £16.32 from December 15 - or £2.75 per head.
