Life-saving equipment has been donated to a Wishaw bar thanks to the generosity of its regulars. Staff and patrons of The Cherry Tree in Netherton raised approximately £2300 in order to purchase a community defibrillator.The defib was purchased in order to pay tribute to two former well-known faces who have passed away.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

After we raised the money his family told us to keep the money and put it towards the defib.“Our former landlord Mick ‘Budgie’ Hough also passed away after collapsing while he was on holiday with his wife Kath and if there had been a defib there he would have survived.“Tommy and Budgie’s family were with us on the day when we installed it.”When someone collapses with a cardiac arrest, their heart can go into a kind of quivering limbo called fibrillation.One of the most effective ways to get it going again is with a sudden powerful electric shock – and that’s the life-saving job a defibrillator does.E
