Veteran DJ Johnnie Walker left his listeners in tears on Sunday 27 October as he hosted his final Sounds of the 70s show on BBC Radio 2.
Johnnie had announced earlier this month he was retiring from radio after a 58 year career due to ill health, having previously been diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a condition that causes the lungs to become scarred and makes breathing increasingly difficult, according to the NHS.
On Friday, the 79 year old presenter had broadcast his last episode of The Rock Show, playing some of his favourite rock anthems, but Sunday’s seventies show marked his final radio appearance.
After playing classic Johnny Nash song I Can See Clearly Now, he spoke to his listeners, saying: “Here we are at the end of a 15-year run on Sunday afternoon’s Sounds Of The 70s and 58 years on British radio.
