A police cordon remains in place around a burnt-out vehicle in the aftermath of a night of rampant violence in Leeds. The Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin, condemned the "violent and thoughtless actions" after violence broke out in the Harehills area of the city, telling residents that "criminal behaviour will not be tolerated".

Chaos erupted in the eastern suburb on Thursday night as vehicles were set alight and a police car was overturned. Residents were urged to remain indoors while police forces and helicopters arrived at the scene. They said some members of the community responded by "throwing stones" and setting things on fire. Videos circulated on social media showing the destruction of vehicles, including a bus on fire, and shocking images of an upturned police car flashing its blue lights and blasting sirens.

On Foundry Approach on Friday morning, four officers stood around the remains of a torched vehicle while onlookers surveyed the aftermath.
