A member of a burglary gang that bagged almost half a million pounds worth of loot thought he had dodged justice by fleeing the country.

But then Tomasz Monowski made the mistake of coming to the attention of Polish police. Before fleeing for Poland, Monowski was part of a gang who targeted properties in the rural areas around Cheshire and North Wales.

The gang stole property with a combined value of £450,214.98 between July 23, 2018, and July 2, 2019, targeting high value items such as quad bikes, motorbikes and horse tack.

In total there were 75 offences – 47 in North Wales and 28 in Cheshire. Monowski, 51, had fled to Poland by the time police carried out raids on gang members' addresses.
