Director Sofia Coppola opened up in a new interview about how the -year-old Oscar nominated actress recommended Cailee for the lead role in the new film. Keep reading to find out more… During her feature with W magazine, Sofia opened up about how she was serious in paying attention to anyone that Kirsten recommended. “Kirsten is like a sister to me, and when she recommended Cailee, I paid attention,” Sofia shared, before adding that she extended the movie offer to Cailee over breakfast during their first meeting. Sofia also shared that Kirsten is an “important collaborator…As soon as I met her, I just instantly had a shorthand with her.” Cailee then added, “Sofia pulled out her iPad and showed me some photos of Priscilla.
She said, ‘I think you could do it!’ I felt like Kirsten had passed the torch to me.” The actress went on to win the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the 2023 Venice Film Festival.
