Kate Garraway makes huge family decision and says 'it's what Derek would have wanted'

Kate Garraway’s family celebrated a milestone this weekend and the ITV GMB star took to Instagram to share an update with fans.In the wake of Kate’s husband Derek Draper’s death in January, their daughter Darcey didn’t want a huge fuss to mark her 18th birthday.Derek passed away at the age of 56 following a long battle against the complications of Covid-19, which he contracted in March 2020.

But the former political advisor, who had been in hospital since December after a cardiac arrest just before Christmas, had wanted their teenage daughter’s birthday to be “marked and special”, Kate told Instagram followers, and so the star set about doing what he wanted, as writes Wales Online.Kate posted a video of her preparations for the big day and showed off a stunning table set with pink balloons, a huge cake and some family snaps.

Kate, 56, said: “So yesterday our little baby Darcey got officially and legally big - 18 !!!"She had said she didn’t want a celebration as it was too soon after her dad passing, but maybe a small family lunch at home.
