‘JFK’ Sound Mixer Tod A. Maitland to Get CAS Career Achievement Award

Carolyn Giardina Five-time Oscar-nominated sound mixer Tod A. Maitland, whose credits range from Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” to Oliver Stone’s “JFK,” will receive the Cinema Audio Society Career Achievement Award during the 61st annual CAS Awards on Feb.

Maitland has more than 100 credits and has earned Academy Award nominations for “West Side Story” (2022), “Joker,” “Seabiscuit,” “JFK” (for which he won a BAFTA) and “Born of the Fourth of July.” His other notable credits include “Tootsie”; “I Am Legend”; “The Irishman”; the series “Fallout,” for which he was recently nominated for an Emmy; and the upcoming Bob Dylan film, “A Complete Unknown.” He’s established himself as a pioneer in capturing sound for modern movie musicals, starting with Stone’s “The Doors.” CAS president Peter Kurland noted that Maitland’s “love for and deep respect for film, combined with his impeccable artistry, make him a truly deserving recipient” of the Career Achievement Award. “Having spent much of my career in New York, I am especially excited to recognize Tod,” he added. “His family has been prominent in New York sound mixing for generations, and he has beautifully carried on that tradition both in New York and beyond.
