When most people think of Jeremy Clarkson, they picture a self-assured, opinionated presenter with a penchant for controversy - however, the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire host admits that he’s not so confident in the quiz master’s chair.

The former Top Gear star, 63, is back for the ITV game show’s latest series and reveals that he’s “always dreading” the Ask the Host lifeline that’s offered to contestants on the show. “I’m never comfortable until the Ask the Host question is out of the way,” he says. “I’m sitting there thinking, ‘It’s coming, it’s coming.

I’m going to make a fool out of myself in a minute!’ “And the most infuriating thing is, there’s a question the contestant doesn’t know and I know the answer to it, and then they don’t ask me.

You think, ‘Come on! I know that one!’ And then the next question is about Greek mythology, they ask me that and I’ve got no idea.” The Grand Tour 's Jeremy teases that the new series, which marks his ninth as host, sees a few “big gamblers” take to the question ladder. “You can’t judge a book by its cover - there are people you think will be dull and you turn out to be wrong,” he laughs. “I look at very young contestants and think you can’t possibly know as much as an older person because you haven’t travelled or you haven’t read as much - and then they blow your socks off. They’re 24 but they’ve got the internet.” While the show welcomes brave quizzers onto its dramatic set, Jeremy admits that taking over the Millionaire gig means his fanboy brother-in-law will never get to play. “He would be absolutely brilliant and when Chris Tarrant was hosting, he tried to get on constantly. “But now I’m hosting, he won’t be allowed.
