Scott Arfield has slammed criticism of the mentality of Rangers' defence as "extremely unfair."The Light Blues back line of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and Borna Barisic, although the Croat missed out through injury against Celtic on Sunday, have been questioned in the early part of the season after Michael Beale's side slipped four points their rivals following the 1-0 Old Firm derby defeat at Ibrox.
The long-serving defenders have been with the club for eight years (Tavernier) and five years (Goldson and Barisic) respectively, but delivered just two trophies in that time.Arfield was part of the 55th title winning squad in 2021, and then added a Scottish Cup winners medal a year later.
But with Celtic sweeping all before them for the majority of that time, fans have hit out at the lack of success playing the core of the same defence and whether things should have been freshened up rather than sticking with club stalwarts for so long.
But Arfield has hit back, saying mentality isn't just about lifting trophies. "It's extremely unfair," he told the Athletic. "Mentality can come in many ways.
