Coronation Street actor Alan Halsall is OUT of I'm a Celebrity after having a major knee operation meaning he will also be taking a break from Coronation Street as he recovers. The soap star, who has played Tyrone Dobbs for over 20 years, has long topped the fans’ wish-list of stars they want to see taking part in Bushtucker Trials.

However, the actor has been forced to pull out of the jungle after revealing that he had reconstructive surgery on his ACL ligament last week, which had gone “really well”, writes The Mirror. The 41-year-old is thought to have injured his knee during exercise and could be recovering from the surgery up to a year. One ITV source said: “It’s a big blow, but there’s no way he can go to Australia – his surgeon would have a fit.

Alan needs to recover fully and then maybe he can take part next year. It’s a massive shame because everyone was really looking forward to having him on the show, but these things happen."The operation sees the damaged anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) removed and replaced with a tendon from another area of the leg.Alan took to Instagram to share the surgery update with his followers, smiling for the camera with his thumbs up and his leg strapped up, he wrote: “On Friday I underwent ACL reconstruction surgery.

I have been told the surgery went really well. I know I have a long 9-12 months of rehabilitation ahead of me but I’m sure with the support of family and friends I’ll get there.“ A Coronation Street spokeswoman said Tyrone would remain on screen for the rest of the year but will then disappear for a bit.
