Residents were evacuated after a large fire erupted on a major road in Hyde. Firefighters rushed to Stockport Road following reports of a building fire on Monday evening (January 22).

Fire crews from Hyde, Gorton, Stalybridge, Stockport and Whitehill worked hard to tackle the ferocious blaze that appeared to come from a local business in the area.

Speaking to the MEN, residents described the shocking moment they saw the huge fire. Rebecca Morris, 27, said: "I went to the bedroom window I could hear the factory popping away.

It was popping like fireworks but quite muffled. "I looked outside and saw a glow to the neighbours house. I ran to the front bedroom and the whole of Stockport road was engulfed in smoke, so I shouted to my partner there's a huge fire!" Try MEN Premium now for FREE...
