'It's been difficult' - Jonny Evans speaks out on Manchester United staff cuts

Jonny Evans admits it has been "difficult" to see the severe cuts in the workforce at Manchester United. United are about to make 250 staff members redundant at the behest of new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos Group.

It is understood at least one employee was informed they would not be going on the pre-season tour of the United States as late as the day before United flew to Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Evans, 36, joined United at the age of nine, left in 2015 at the age of 27 and returned to his boyhood club after an eight-year absence last year.

His wife, Helen, has worked at MUTV since 2010, Evans's brother, Corey, was in the United academy and his father, Jackie, worked as an academy coach at the club. "I had a spell away but have been at the club a long time," Evans said after United's 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in Los Angeles. "A lot of people have lost their jobs these last couple of weeks, it's been hard and difficult to see.
