A woman with dementia told her son she had been raped at a care home, a trial jury has heard. Stanley Ekhator, 36, is on trial accused of raping the elderly woman in her bedroom in the early hours of December 17 last year.

He had qualified as a carer at the home when the alleged offence occurred, prosecutors said. Jurors have been told the victim has dementia and now has 'no recollection' of the alleged offence, so is not able to attend or give evidence in the ongoing trial. Before jurors on Tuesday (June 27), the victim's son took to the witness stand and spoke of the moment his mum told him she had 'been attacked' before saying she had been allegedly raped.

Prosecutors allege that the woman was raped in her bedroom by the defendant, who was working a night shift at the residential facility, between 3.15am and 3.30am.

Jurors were told on Monday (June 26) that five days after the alleged incident, the woman was examined at a sexual assault referral centre.
