Once a cornerstone of British culture, it appears we're increasingly shunning alcohol. A recent YouGov survey revealed that nearly half of 18 to 24 year olds are choosing low or no-alcohol options when out on the town.The study, commissioned by the Portman Group, also found that 39% of Gen Z respondents claimed they don't drink at all.In another study, it was discovered that 26% of millennials have reduced their alcohol intake in the past six months, as the trend towards sobriety continues to grow.
Around 25% of 25 to 39 year olds confessed to drinking three or four days a week.As a 32 year old journalist, I'd like to think I fall into this category too.
I enjoy unwinding with a drink at the weekend or when socialising. But, like an increasing number of people, I began to ponder what life would be like without a few pints to relax, or that beer at the local pub.
The NHS suggests that even a brief period of abstinence can bring health benefits and potentially save some money, reports Wales Online.
