Should you fancy a break in Venice with the allure of savouring authentic Italian pizza at a charming local spot by the canals, you may want to temper your excitement.Holidaymakers are being urged to steer clear of pizza orders in Venice, and the rationale is pretty peculiar.Travel influencer Erin Fang, known to her over 269,000 TikTok followers as @thelittlebasketco, recently posted a clip detailing "things I wish social media told me before visiting Venice"."First up, do not rely on the food and definitely not the pizza," declared Erin.
She elaborated that wood-fired ovens are prohibited in Venice, which takes away that special something from the city's pizza.This observation has been made before.
In fact, according to the Culture Trip travel guide website: "It's actually quite hard to find good pizza in Venice because wood-burning ovens are historically banned for fire safety reasons.
Unless it's one of the few places that do it right, most pizza restaurants are tourist traps."Furthermore, Erin pointed out that pizza isn't the sole disappointment food-wise in Venice.
