Banking giant HSBC warned holidaymakers last month of a rise in "clone" scammers, who create official-looking websites offering great holiday deals before stealing your bank details and running away with your hard-earned cash.

Often, these fake websites will appear on social media or search engines when people look for holiday bargains. Searching for travel bargains can often lead to people becoming the victim of nasty scams, which many do not realise until money leaves their account, leaving them stranded in the UK with no holiday and no money.

A whopping £14 million was declared as lost to this style of scam last year, though the real number of the scam's victims is likely much higher.

Manchester is among the most vulnerable cities in the UK to this style of scam, with research showing that Mancunians search for holiday bargains and last-minute more than most with over 4700 searches a month.
