Robbie Savage believes Erik ten Hag must be suffering from 'delusions of grandeur' after a number of excuses made by the Manchester United boss in recent weeks.

United have endured a torrid start to the new season, with four defeats in six matches across all competitions. Wednesday's 4-3 loss at Bayern Munich in the Champions League was their third in a row.

In recent weeks, Ten Hag has spent his post-match media duties taking aim at officials and technology, most notably suggesting VAR used the wrong angle to adjudge Alejandro Garnacho as offside in the 3-1 defeat against Arsenal - an objective decision and one that was correct.

He also questioned why Rasmus Hojlund didn't get a penalty for a soft challenge. "Ten Hag was hoping to put his stamp on the side this season but right now this Manchester United team has no dynamism, it's full of lethargy and the players don't look like they are enjoying it," Savage wrote in his column for the Mirror. "Worst of all, the manager appears to suffering from delusions of grandeur because some of his excuses don't wash. ‌"He tried to blame the application of technology when Alejandro Garnacho's late 'goal' at Arsenal was disallowed, claiming VAR looked at it from the wrong angle.
