Police have issued a stark warning after packages with 'harmful and deadly' contents have been intercepted en route to Manchester.
Heroin, cocaine, knuckle dusters, and knives are among the items found in the dozens of parcels containing illegal weapons and substances over recent weeks, according to the Border Force and Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
Officers say there has been a particular 'trend of cannabis' being ordered into the country, especially from the USA, and warned that those importing and in posession of the drug may face prosecution. A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in Wythenshawe on Tuesday (August 22), after he allegedly ordered a baton from abroad.
Police have also carried out warrants in Heywood and Blackley after drugs were ordered to houses in the area. Detective Inspector Lee Newburn, from Greater Manchester Police’s Challenger Team, said: “We continue to work closely with the Border Force, who regularly intercept packages before giving us all the relevant information we need to investigate.
