Health body provides Strep A update which should reassure worried parents in Lanarkshire

Parents in Lanarkshire who may be concerned that their child has been infected by Strep A should seek the advice of a health professional.Infections caused by Strep A (Group A streptococcus) normally go up during winter and have been increasing since the beginning of October.

A significant number of cases were reported in the 2017/18 season and peaks can occur every three to four years.Earlier this week it was confirmed that there were a number of cases in Ayrshire but as of yet it’s unknown if there are any recorded cases in the NHS Lanarkshire area.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

These types of incidences are normally more prevalent in those aged under 10 years and from the beginning of October to December 5 there have been a total of 13 cases in under-10s.
