People travelling to Greece have been warned to take care after it emerged that there has been a big surge in Covid cases there.

The new FLiRT variant of the virus has led to a big increase in numbers infected. In a new report the National Public Health Organization EODY said that from July 8 to 14, 2024 a total of 669 new COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals, indicating an upward trend.

According to the latest epidemiological EODY report, 12 patients required ventilator support. Among those intubated is a child younger than 9 years old.

26 Covid-patients have died in the corresponding week. EODY advises vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions, to strictly follow respiratory infection prevention measures.
