A grandfather at the centre of a murder investigation was found 'sitting in blood' next to his sofa, an inquest opening has heard.
Geoffery Ives was found dead in his flat in Hardfield Street, Heywood, on January 29. Police found the 75-year-old's body following a ‘concern for welfare’ call the same day.
An inquest into the death of Mr Ives, a retired carer, was opened at Rochdale Coroner's Court today (Friday). Outlining the brief circumstances of his death, police coroners offficer Kathy Skelton told the hearing: "A neighbour rang police after not seeing Geoffrey for three or four days. READ MORE: Woman who died after running into street on fire 'poured white spirit over her own head' "Police attended and forced entry into the property and found Geoffrey sitting on the floor leaning against his sofa. "He was sitting in some blood and there was some blood on his top.
He had suffered some injuries." A police investigation into Mr Ives' death is ongoing, Ms Skelton added. Area coroner Catherine McKenna adjourned the inquest until June 5 when a review of the case is set to be carried out.
