Durie’s Amateur Boxing Club hosted an action-packed show in Glasgow last week, as coach Archie Durie handed out achievement awards in their final event of the season.For the first time in their history, the club moved outside of the Rutherglen Burgh for the annual presentation night.Glasgow’s Hilton Grosvenor Hotel played host to a black-tie dinner, awards and fight night, which saw 16 bouts take place.

It was also the first time since the Covid lockdown in 2020 that the club have handed out their achievement belts, with guest of honour Hannah Rankin, the former WBA and IBO 154lb world champion, in attendance among the sell-out crowd.Fighter Abe Renton collected the Archie and Emily Durie belt for best senior, while Lucas Ewan picked up the junior prize and the Jimmy McGloin Remembrance Belt for best newcomer went to Franky Manson.A brilliant night of boxing also took place as there were seven good wins for Durie’s fighters Danyal Khan,Josh Gardiner,Joe McClue, Michael McMillan, Jay Stuart, Abe Renton and Jamie Durie, with three exhibitions also on the card for Kaylah Lynch, Lucas Ewan and Rehan Farid.There were also six defeats for club boxers, as Adam Khan, Mohammed Dean Khan, Ross McNeil, Zak Whalen, Franky Manson and Nathan Rodden went down to their opponentsThe shield for fight of the year went to Jay Stuart, for his top of the bill bout in Ireland last week against St Conleth’s BC boxer Liam McNamee.Archie said: “I’m delighted for Abe Renton.

He has had a year of ups and downs, but he is on top form just now and listens to all instructions given during bouts and at training.“Franky deserves his prize for his progress and the hard work he has put in the past year.
