Flooding 'possible' as Met Office issues Greater Manchester weather warning for even more heavy rain

The Met Office said flooding is 'possible' in parts of Greater Manchester as forecasters issued a weather warning for more heavy rainfall.

After weeks of rain and sodden conditions, New Year's Day began with bright sunshine and pleasant, dry conditions. But the Met Office said it's not going to last - as a yellow-coded warning for rain was issued covering a period from 5pm tonight until 9pm tomorrow - January 2.

The alert covers central Manchester as far north as Bury and Leigh, but doesn't cover Bolton and Wigan. The Met Office warning said: "Heavy rain falling on saturated ground is likely to cause some travel disruption.
