Firefighters race to burning building next to south Manchester school

Firefighters raced to put out a burning building next to a south Manchester school this evening. Three fire engines were called to the building on Nell Lane in Chorlton shortly before 8pm, according to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS).

Crews were forced to use breaking in gear and a hose reel to extinguish the blaze. Footage from the scene shows fire crews working at the scene next to Chorlton High School.

Crews were in attendance for an hour. READ MORE: Join the FREE Manchester Evening News WhatsApp community A GMFRS spokesperson said: “Shortly before 8pm on Friday 14 April, firefighters were called out to a building fire on Nell Lane, Chorlton. “Three fire engines from Moss Side, Withington and Stretford quickly attended the scene where a fire had started in an old school building next to Chorlton High School. "Crews used breaking in gear to gain entry to the building and used four breathing apparatus and a hose reel to extinguish the fire.
