Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief Chan Tai-lee, the screenwriter of many of the Ip Man martial arts action films, has written and directed upcoming action film “Fight for Tomorrow.” Mandarin Motion Pictures, which backed the film and is handling international rights sales, is using this week’s FilMart to launch the picture to international buyers.

The production was assisted with finance from the Hong Kong Film Development Fund. Production is by Edmond Wong (aka Wong Tsz-wun), whose producing, executive producing and writing credits include the “Breakout Brothers” series of movies, “Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy” and “Bounty Hunters.” “Fight for Tomorrow” stars former TVB actor Patrick Tam, Matthew “Locker” Lam Ka Hei, Mark Cheng Ho-nam, Ying Chiyue (aka Ying Zhiyue) and Sherming You Lok-yee. “Shi Saburo, portrayed by Tam, is a former tough guy who has been retired for several years and today is just a small figure in the market.

Quietly, he has been working hard to break through the real difficulties, rediscover meaning in family, friendship and career, and finally understand the true meaning of ‘tomorrow,’ “ said Chan in a statement. “I want convey the idea that even in the face of problems we need to maintain a positive attitude and still believe that fate will come around, so that it will eventually be our turn again to create a better tomorrow.” Mandarin, founded in 2018, builds on the much older legacy of Hong Kong productions captained by its founder, the director and producer Raymond Wong Pak-ming.
