Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham believes Erik ten Hag has made a mistake by not signing Harry Kane given the calibre of player required at Old Trafford.

It has been widely reported that Tottenham Hotspur have accepted a £90m bid from Bayern Munich for their talisman. At the beginning of the summer, Ten Hag identified the England captain as a top target.

However, it became clear Spurs' chairman Daniel Levy was unwilling to sell Kane to a Premier League rival and would prefer for him to move abroad.

Despite owner Joe Lewis' ultimatum, Levy held firm and now looks to have agreed a suitable fee for the striker. Speaking before Spurs accepted a bid from Bayern, Sheringham told the Sky Bet Fan Hope Survey the Reds should be battling for the world's best players. "Harry Kane is always on the top of that list when you talk about top players, but you don’t want to make two big striker signings, leaving one unhappy." The transfer window is in full swing and United have got their hands on three players well in advance of the September 1 deadline, with Rasmus Hojlund joining Mason Mount and Andre Onana at Old Trafford.
