Ex-Burnley striker says Hamilton Accies can kick-start his career

Joe McGlynn admits a weight was lifted off his shoulders when he left Burnley, but the striker is ready to start his career at Hamilton Accies.McGlynn, 20, admits it was difficult to leave Turf Moor, having been there since he was 12, but is delighted to be making the first steps of his professional career.The fact that he wants to fire Accies to the League One title in the hopes that it puts him in the Scotland under-21 frame should be good news for fans.And McGlynn says he will do whatever it takes to achieve success for Hamilton Accies and his own career.McGlynn said: “It was quite upsetting to be leaving Burnley, I’ve been there for that much time, but I was quite excited when I was leaving.“I felt a weight off my shoulders, leaving Burnley, I don’t know how to explain it, but I saw it as a new opening, a whole side of my career that I can go to, especially coming to Hamilton, now, and playing men’s football – professional, real football, not under-21s or whatever.“I feel that this is my first professional move.

I had a few loans last year but I was still technically a Burnley Academy player.“I’m at the age now where I need to be playing professional football properly, I want to stamp my name down, up here, but also make a bit of noise about myself.“I just can’t wait to get started, and it will be a little bit of a difference, obviously, because I’m playing with men now and not boys that I can push about – not saying I can’t do that to men as well – but I’m just excited to get started here.”With a Scottish dad, Warrington-born McGlynn has been well aware of Hamilton Accies, who have been in the Premiership for a huge part of his life.He said: “My agent spoke to me and said he had spoken to the gaffer John Rankin, and
