Gartcairn gaffer Mick Dunlop says his side fought off competition to land Jack McIlveen from Rutherglen Glencairn, as the striker became one of seven new signings so far this summer.McIlveen, 23, was Glencairn’s top scorer last season and helped them reach the Junior Cup final, so there was plenty of interest in his services. But Dunlop has swooped to add the frontman, following the departure of ‘Cairn’s top scorer last season, Jordon Love, who has joined Drumchapel.Added to that are McIlveen’s old Glens strike partner Harry Mitchell, midfielders Alan Cook from Broomhill and Luke Crerand from Rossvale, defenders Jamie Bain and Gavin Mitchell from Brechin City and St Cadoc’s, respectively, as well as goalkeeper Glen Cameron from Johnstone Burgh.Dunlop said: “Jack is a really good striker.

He’s still young and gives us a different kind of option to what Jordon gave us last season. Jack scored in the region of 20-odd goals last season in the league we were in and we managed to beat off a few teams for his signature, which is good.“We need another three players, I think, and we are still trying to do a bit of business before the season starts.”Gartcairn played their first pre-season match on Saturday, where they enjoyed a thumping 6-0 win over Thornton Hibs.

Danny Burns hit a hat-trick, while Darren Smith, Reegan Aitken and new signing Harry Mitchell were also on target in the rout.Dunlop added: “The guys have been working hard at training since June 29 but nothing compares to game time.“Results at this stage aren’t important but it was a good 90 minutes for us and the goals won’t do the scorers’ confidence any harm.”Gartcairn now face Thorniewood United away tonight and then travel to Broxburn Athletic on Saturday.Follow
