Following a string of lacklustre performances that saw United secure just three wins in nine Premier League matches, Ten Hag's time at the helm has come to an abrupt end.
The club has also endured an equally disappointing position of 21st out of 36 teams in the Europa League standings, drawing all three of their games in the European competition.
Before Ten Hag stepped into the managerial role at Old Trafford, outgoing interim manager Rangnick emphasised the importance of injecting "positive energy" for the new team and manager by acquiring the "best possible players".
