England footballer Jill Scott - 'Shelley and I are finally planning our wedding'

Speaking to Jill Scott is like catching up with an old friend – she even encourages OK! to pour ourselves a cup of tea (Tetley, to be exact) and get comfy as she fills us in on her whirlwind few years.

From winning the European Women’s Championships in 2022 to being crowned Queen of the Jungle in I’m A Celebrity later that year, it’s been a non-stop thrill ride for the Sunderland-born star.

Given the fact that Jill also headed down under for several weeks to cover the Lionesses in action during this summer’s World Cup, we can’t help wondering if the 36-year-old might be ready to take her foot off the pedal for a bit. “I’m ready for some time off and spending it with my friends and family,” she confesses. “But I do miss the game, I won’t lie.” Asked if she and her fiancée, Shelly Unitt, 38, are any further forward with their wedding arrangements, Jill lights up at the mention of her wife-to-be’s name – but then sighs and admits they simply “haven’t had the time”. “It’s been so busy that we’re like passing ships at times, but we’re definitely starting to think about what we want to do,” she says. “We’ve been engaged for nearly four years now, but with Covid and lockdown happening, we sort of lost momentum for a while. “But Shelly and I have finally been making some wedding plans and we’re definitely in the swing of things now.” Jill met Shelly – who has two teenage daughters, Evie and Hattie, from a previous relationship – through her sister, ex-footballer Rachel Unitt, her former teammate.

It’s hardly surprising the couple’s wedding plans have been on the back burner. As one of England’s most decorated players – she’s one of the few Lionesses to have gained more than 150 caps – Jill’s understandably had to put her career.
