Earlier in the day, showrunners had prepped viewers for the difficult scenes, reassuring them that no animals were harmed during the filming of the shocking sequence where Tom lashes out at the beloved animal.
In the shocking scenes, viewers watched as Tom drove directly at Piper, and later he is seen carrying the injured animal into the vet's office wrapped in a blanket, telling Belle he'll do everything to save her, hoping it might mend their fractured relationship.
Fans didn't hold back on Twitter, which is now called X, with one commenting: "# Emmerdale Tom running the dog over. What a horrible little man.
