Incredible pictures of a former school in Edinburgh have offered a glimpse back in time as the building awaits demolition.Work has started on bulldozing the former Castlebrae Community High School in Craigmillar, Edinburgh but much remains intact.

Built in the late 1960s, the school is typical from that time with its grey exterior and some have labelled it an 'eyesore'.In pictures unearthed by Edinburgh Live, demolition work is seen being carried out on the old gymnasium but the the basketball hoop remains.A large skip is among mounds of rubble and dirt as part of the wall has been taken down by builders. An old desk is toppled over onto the grass next to a fence, while an office chair lies a few yards away on overgrown grass.

The main reception and school sign can just about be seen behind the fences and signs that warn that work is taking place.Anyone hoping for a glimpse at the old building should hurry before the remaining demolition work is complete.

The decision to knock the school down was made after City of Edinburgh Council proposed its closure in June 2013 because of falling rolls and poor exam results.
