Eerie 'ghost house' bigger than Buckingham Palace left abandoned for decades

A huge mansion dubbed "The Ghost House of Sussex" which is bigger than Buckingham Palace has been left abandoned and it's likely no one will ever live there again.Hamilton Palace was built for local multi-millionaire Nicholas van Hoogstraten who was accused of manslaughter of a former business rival back in 2002 but the verdict was overturned and he was released.Three years later, Nicholas was ordered to pay the Raja family £6 million in a civil case.

Building works were put on hold shortly after, and Mr Van Hoogstraten had told the local press that completing the renovations wasn't his "top priority".

The huge decaying mansion has been left empty since construction stopped in 1985 and now wastes away in the countryside to the dislike of residents who believe it is a waste of space reports the Mirror.Locals have previously complained about the huge area being left unused and there was a row over a public footpath that ran through it that Mr Van Hoogstraten did not want to be used.Eight years ago, the property owner hit out at those complaining about the state of the mansion, calling them "peasants" and said: "Even the most moronic of peasants would be able to see… that we have been busy landscaping the grounds of the palace to prepare for scheduled works."The crumbling estate has been the subject of immense investment even though no one has ever lived in it and there is little sign that anyone ever will.Incredible drone footage taken in 2022 showed the owner still has no plans to resume renovation as the site remains encased in scaffolding and overgrowing foliage.It is hidden away off of an unassuming junction on the A22 south of Uckfield in East Sussex and the house, bigger than Buckingham Palace, is completely obscured
