A cleaning expert has shared her top tips on how to clean your washing machine, killing germs and removing limescale in the process.

One of the most popular household appliances there is, washing machines are used by millions all over the country every day.

But over time, they can become unsanitary and therefore make your clothes dirty as well. Making sure you're cleaning the drum and the drawer regularly is essential, so cleaning specialist Karen Barrigan from Housetastic.co.uk has revealed a step-by-step guide on how to do it right.

She told the Express: "The most easy and efficient way to clean a washing machine drum is to put on an empty cycle. "To do this, add a little bit of washing detergent directly into the drum, and hot wash on around 60 degrees. "Try to put the cycle on the hottest wash possible by your appliance, in order to kill germs, and remove limescale."Another important step you shouldn't forget is to clean out the drawer, which can get full of old detergent and make your clothes smell bad.
