East Kilbride captain Liam Brown was determined to quit Queen’s Park this summer after falling out of love with football. But the 24-year-old midfielder says he has regained the fire in his belly after new Kilby boss Mick Kennedy handed him the armband at K-Park.Former Motherwell under-20s and Edinburgh City star Brown says some personal trauma sent him into a spiral at Queen’s Park last season. He went from playing 41 times for the Spiders two seasons ago to just seven in the last campaign, with one extra appearance during a loan spell at Stenhousemuir, where Queen’s Park ground-shared.That resulted in Brown getting out of his contract, which still had a year to go, in order to start again. He said: “I’ve had my struggles with football, in terms of playing week in, week out, and then last year I took a wee bad spell with mental health – a lot of people might not know that.“You could say I fell out of love with football a bit.“My mum was giving birth to my little brother this time last year and my wee brother was premature.“We actually nearly lost my wee brother and my mum, so it was a tough time.“That hit me last year and was probably what caused the mental health side of things, and I didn’t really know how to deal with it.”Brown added: “I had another year at Queen’s Park, but for me a lot had happened and I just knew that I had to get a fresh start and get back playing.“I had been speaking with the gaffer and Si [assistant Si Ferry] towards the end of last season.

I kind of knew what I wanted to do, in regards to leaving Queen’s Park, and getting a fresh start elsewhere.“For me it was just a case of going somewhere where I knew I was wanted.
