Katie Porter (D-CA) had already entered the race, anticipating Feinstein’s decision to retire from the Senate. “I am announcing today I will not run for reelection in 2024 but intend to accomplish as much for California as I can through the end of next year when my term ends,” Feinstein said. “Even with a divided Congress, we can still pass bills that will improve lives.” “Each of us was sent here to solve problems.

A former mayor of San Francisco, Feinstein ran for governor in 1990, but lost to Pete Wilson, a Republican. Two years later, she won a special election after Wilson resigned from the Senate to become governor.
