On what would have been Queen Elizabeth's 97th birthday, King Charles III shared a tribute to his late mother on a bittersweet day for the Royal family.
The Royal family's official Twitter and Instagram accounts posted a picture of the late Queen, which was taken just months before her death in September last year.
In the picture, the late monarch is seen wearing a lilac ensemble, as she smiled and clutched onto a bouquet of flowers during an outing in Edinburgh last June.
This was shortly after the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee, which marked her first public appearance after the celebrations.The caption read: "Today we remember the incredible life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, on what would have been her 97th birthday. "When Her Majesty was born in April 1926, Princess Elizabeth and her family did not expect that she would one day become Queen. "Following the abdication of her uncle King Edward VIII in 1936, her father acceded to the throne."It went on to say: "When King George VI died in February 1952, Princess Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth II when she was just 25.
