Cara Delevingne has opened up on being four months sober and joining a 12-step programme as she reflects on her sobriety journey. The supermodel, 30, admitted that "sometimes you need a reality check" as she shared an honest account of her decision in a new interview with Vogue magazine as their April cover star.

Cara, who shot to fame as the face of British fashion designer Burberry in 2011, checked herself into rehab late last year after "pushing everyone away", making her realise she was in a "bad place". "Before I was always into the quick fix of healing, going to a weeklong retreat or to a course for trauma, say, and that helped for a minute, but it didn’t ever really get to the nitty-gritty, the deeper stuff," the star told Vogue . "This time I realised that 12-step treatment was the best thing, and it was about not being ashamed of that." The Hollywood actress also acknowledged a series of images taken of her at an airport in Los Angeles last year also helped her to consider sobriety, despite it being "heartbreaking" because at the time she simply thought she was "having fun".

Cara explained that there was a certain point where she realised she "didn't look well," and that prompted her to face a "reality check". "You know, sometimes you need a reality check, so in a way those pictures were something to be grateful for," the star added.

After celebrating her 30th birthday last summer, Cara said the milestone also encouraged her to reassess the way she was living her life as it was "not sustainable".
