Cambuslang Rangers' relegation isn't all doom and gloom, insists co-boss

Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Paul McColl insists it is not all doom and gloom going down to the West of Scotland First Division after a tough season on and off the pitch.Camby’s relegation was confirmed last weekend and they bounced back with a 3-2 midweek win over Glenafton Athletic, which McColl says proves they can compete with a full-strength team.But they were down to the bare bones on Saturday as Kirkintilloch Rob Roy clocked up a comfortable 3-1 win in their penultimate fixture.McColl says he’s disappointed to be leaving the Premier Division after Saturday’s home game against Cumnock, but reckons they’re going into a strong league.He said: “Off the park it has been difficult, because we’re operating with the lowest budget in the league, and our crowds aren’t huge.“But it’s not all doom and gloom – it has just been a bad season, but to be honest it’s a good league we’re going into.“We’re disappointed to be going down, but it’s a cracking league with a lot of good teams in it.”Cambuslang were down to just 11 players and threw in 16-year-old Ryan Black, as they went down heavily at Kirkintilloch.Nicky Fraser put them into a first-half lead, but switching off at a couple of free kicks let Rob Roy back into the game and they added a third.McColl said: “When we have a full team it’s a different story, we’re a match for nearly everybody, but we only had 11 men and one was a kid.“We had nobody on the bench and were playing with two guys who were injured, while they used all five subs.

Our guys were dying on their feet.“We had a few no-shows with players going on holiday, a couple of injuries that were late call-offs, and an error with Sam Greenwood saw him miss four games for a three-game suspension.“We started really well,
